Training Course Culture Sensitive Work

Solentra is developing an innovative training course in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation about culture sensitive work with migrants and refugees. The course aims at caregivers and first-line professionals, who come into contact with the aforementioned population during their work. Therefore, the content of the course is based on a needs assessment of those health professionals. This has resulted in a very specific and practical design. This was done in order to guarantee the tool’s most practical use possible for mental health professionals.

Some topics that will be discussed during the course are as followed:

  • Getting to know the migrant and refugee population.
  • How does culture interfere in the contact between me and my clients?
  • What is the best way to react when a client suddenly presents their traumatic experience?
  • How to create the conditions for stabilisation in trauma affected population?
  • How to address resilience amongst migrants and refugees?
  • When and to whom should I refer clients?
  • And much more!

The course will consist of a series of lessons supported by a trainer from the participant’s own organisation and a digital e-learning platform. This trainer is an employee from the own individual’s organisation, who, himself, will have been trained to guide the course and its participants. The e-learning platform allows the participants to develop their knowledge and skills in an interactive manner. For example by working with real life witnesses to create re-enactments of particular situations and using ‘virtual patients’.

The effective delivery is planned for the end of 2020.
